Fishcage Project! BARMM MAFAR Welcomes US Aquaculture Investment

Cotabato City – Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform Minister Mohammad Yacob of the Bangsamoro Region today expressed full support for the proposed Aquaculture project in the region.
The project which would involve retired US Navy officers of Filipino descent will establish fish cages for Bangus and high value fish production in the bay fronting Parang town, ice-making and cold storage equipment, Aqua Feed Mill and processing facilities.
The facilities are proposed to be set up in the Polloc Port Authority compound where an under-utilized port is located.
The project is expected to open job opportunities for the locals and contribute to the food sufficiency program of the country.
The retired US Navy expressed their interest in investing in the Philippines when I met the group during a recent trip to the US.
“This will be the first major investment in the region and we are happy to welcome them,” Minister Yacob said during a call I made in his office today.
He was joined by the three Director-Generals of MAFAR, Pendatun Patarasa of Fisheries, Dr. Daud Lagasi of Agriculture and Taugan Kikay of Agrarian Reform.
“The fact that Filipino-Americans are interested to invest in the BARMM is a positive sign for us,” Minister Yacob said.
He said MAFAR will coordinate with other Ministries and agencies under the BARMM to facilitate the entry of the investments.
