Continuous rains brought about by a Low Pressure Area in the Southern Philippines have caused flash floods which inundated communities and housing subdivisions along the banks of the Davao River since last night.
Among the victims of the flash floods are my brother, Celso and his son and helper, who are now marooned and have climbed up the house’s rooftop in Jade Valley Subdivision, one of the communities affected by the floods.
Bong Go, executive assistant to Davao City Vice Mayor Rody Duterte, told me that 911 operatives equipped with rubber boats have been dispatched to the area to rescue marooned residents.
“Just tell them not to get off the roofs. The rescuers will be there soon,” Bong Go told me when I called him up by phone early today following a report from my brothers Mayor Efren and Col. Pat that Celso, a ship captain, and his son are on the rooftop waiting for rescuers.
It was a good thing that before the floods hit the area, Celso’s wife and three other children were able to move to higher grounds and are now safe.
Jade Valley has been hit by flash floods many times in the past destroying properties and even vehicles.
Bong Go said the floodwaters have subsided as the rains have stopped and that all marooned residents are expected to be rescued soon.
There are no reports of fatalities or missing persons.
