NFA PALAY PROCUREMENT
LAUNCHED IN MINDORO OCC
By Manny Piñol
The National Food Authority Council (NFAC) will launch on Friday its national procurement program for locally produced paddy rice in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro which would pay rice farmers up to P20.70 per kilo.
The Occidental Mindoro activity will come a full week ahead of the start of the national palay procurement on Oct. 19.
The procurement program will be focused in areas where the buying price of paddy rice is considerably low.
These areas include Mindoro Island, Panay Island, Negros Island and many parts of Mindanao.
The Department of Agriculture, now the Mother Agency of the NFA, will support the palay procurement program by offering the following incentives:
1. Priority in the Production Loan Easy Access Program (PLEA) of the DA-ACPC amounting to P50,000 per hectare;
2. Free use of drying facilities to be established in NFA Buying Stations;
3. Bonus of machinery and equipment like tractors, harvesters and even Solar Powered Irrigation System for huge volumes of rice delivered.
The palay procured this harvest season will be part of the buffer stocks of the NFA for 2019 as part of President Rody Duterte’s program to increase the country’s rice reserves.
The members of the NFA Council are expected to attend the launching of the National Procurement Program of the NFA on Friday.
