Last night, I was one of the three guests of TV host Christian Esguerra in his program After The Fact and I was asked why I quit the Cabinet to run for a Senatorial seat and why I did not join the administration party, PDP-Laban.
I told him that my decision to run for the Senate was made at the last minute, actually only about 2 or 3 weeks ago when I saw the names of those vying for a Senate slate and finding no one who carried the cause of the Filipino farmers, fishermen and workers.
I also explained that somebody has to stand up to correct the anti-agriculture policies and legislations, like the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL) and the massive importation of goods which could be produced by Filipinos.
Food production, I emphasized, is the foundation of a strong nation and when people are involved in producing food for the country, we also create jobs.
