For fault-finders, fence-sitters! ‘Ask Not What Gov’t Can Do, But What You Can Do To Help!’

Yesterday, a friend sent me a Facebook post of a perennial critic of the Department of Agriculture which showed photos of a store in Manila supposedly selling frozen pork products from China.

“Frozen pork meat from China for sale in a store in Manila. The Meat Product come from ASF country what is Government doing?” was the caption of his post.

I intentionally blotted his name but I believe I have to share the photo because this shows the kind of attitude that will lead this country to perdition.

Government cannot be present in all places to watch everything that moves neither is it perfect.

To even have the notion that government is to be blamed for everything that is wrong in this country is to miss the fact that government could only be as efficient, corruption-free and effective as its citizens would like it to be.

I remember the famous line from John F. Kennedy when he said: “Ask not what government can do for you but what you can do for government.”

Instead of asking “What is Government doing?” would it not have been more helpful had he reported this matter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which has jurisdiction over processed food in the market or, if he does not trust the DA National Meat Inspection Service, call the attention of the police knowing that these items are banned in the country and not supposed to be sold?

That is because he proclaims to be a hog industry stakeholder whose advocacy is to protect Filipino farmers.

I have long given up on this guy because I know what his real intentions are but I have high hopes in the patriotism of real Filipinos who love this country.
