For Mindanao Farmers! You Like To Try Sorghum? Organize, We’ll Help You!

As I pursue the advocacy to promote the planting of Sorghum as a source of animal feeds, both grains and silage, and human food as well, like low-glycemic flour, I had been receiving individual requests for help in acquiring seeds.
Sorry, but we do not have Sorghum seeds for sale because the seeds that we have would only be used in the Sorghum Production Partnership Farming where we provide the seeds and technical support and buy back the production afterwards.
Of course, we would like to help but our young company, Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc. (SAAVI) which former Senator Ping Lacson, several friends and I formed over a year ago does not have enough resources to cover so many areas.
In view of this limitation, we will just focus our operations in Central Mindanao and other parts of Mindanao which would be accessible to our operations but we cannot entertain individual requests of 1 to 10 hectares.
By the end of this month, we will have Hybrid Sorghum Bicolor Seeds from Scott Seeds of Texas which could cover 600 hectares whose planting will be programmed at 150 hectares per month.
So far, I had received inquiries for Sorghum farming from farmers in nearby Davao Del Sur, Bukidnon, Zamboanga Del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, South Cotabato, Upi, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.
Farmers who would like to try planting Sorghum should do the following:
1. Organize and consolidate an area of at least 60 hectares per location;
2. Set a schedule for Orientation Workshop which we will conduct to share the protocols on Sorghum Farming;
3. Show capability to undertake Sorghum farming using their own resources like tractors, funds for inputs and labor and Sorghum thresher;
4. Agree to a Buy-Back Scheme where SAAVI will provide the seeds on credit and the technical management and then buy back the produced grains afterwards.
We do not have seeds for sale and the seeds that we have are solely for the Buy-Back Program, meaning if you do not sell your produce to us, we would not be able to include you in the program.
What is good about Sorghum Buy-Back Scheme is that we assure the farmers of a pre-agreed price.
Also, we will teach farmers how to make use of their Sorghum stalks for silage-making and link them up with the Department of Agriculture for possible inclusion in the Dairy Production or Small Ruminants Program.
For other farmers outside of Mindanao, we apologize that we could not serve you as of now.
