I share the joy of the family of Libungan businesswoman Annie Datuwata, who was released by her kidnappers along with her accountant, last night.
Annie, 70, is the mother of my friend, former Libungan town councilor Christopher “Amping” Datuwata Cuan. She was taken by armed men from her gas station in the town last week.
The release of Manang Annie was confirmed to me by Amping’s brother, Noel, who took my call today.
I thank God that she and her accountant are safe and I am happy that this harrowing experience has ended.
This is the second time that the Datuwata family has been victimized by kidnappers. Many years ago, Amping’s father was also abducted.
I thank all of those whose help I sought: Dean Marvic Leonen, chairman of the GPH Negotiating Panel who was in Malaysia at the time; the MILF for giving in to my request to help in recovering Manang Annie, Maguindanao Gov. Toto Mangudadatu, Cong. Jesus N. Sacdalan.
I also thank the many other people, who in one way or another secured the release of Mrs. Datuwata-Cuan, including the nameless soldiers who pursued the kidnappers.
Most of all, I thank God for this happy ending for the Datuwata-Cuan family.
