Another key official of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has thrown his full support to the Integrated Farming System which I had designed to boost farmers productivity.
BARMM Labor and Employment Minister Muslimen Sema who represents the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the nascent autonomous government will host today a Farmers Forum on Sorghum and Soybeans Integrated Farming System in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
Parang thus becomes the third town within the Autonomous Region to adopt the IFS which involves the introduction of Sorghum and Soybeans in a rotational cropping program.
Earlier, the towns of North Upi and South Upi joined the program with about 50 hectares already planted to Sorghum as of today.
Minister Sema, also former Mayor of Cotabato City, is the second key official of the BARMM after MAFAR Minister Mohammad Yacob to embrace the Integrated Farming System which I crafted.
The introduction of Small and Large Ruminants farming in confined areas using Sorghum Silage as feeds would be the next level in the IFS.
Today, farmers in Parang will gather in Barangay Magsaysay where I and the technical staff of the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Inc. (SAAVI), which handles the Sorghum Program, and the Vetmate Farma Corp. which covers Soybeans Production, will conduct a forum.
An initial 80 hectares had been identified as the Pilot Area for the program in the BARMM with the farmers assured of a ready market for their produce at a guaranteed price.
The BARMM has an estimated area of 2-million hectares found mainly in the three provinces in the mainland of Mindanao namely Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte.
