Late this afternoon, a young inventor from Surallah, South Cotabato came to the farm bringing with him samples of a foliar fertilizer which he said he developed.
Jacob Solerano, a college drop-out, said he had been developing agricultural inputs using local available materials.
For the foliar fertilizer that he brought to me, Nachurarus, he said he used seaweeds and amino acid from Soybeans and he claims the formula is effective for Soybeans, vegetables and other crops.
He, however, said that he has a hard time selling his produce since he does not have a license from the Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority.
I am easily touched by stories of courage and determination like Jacob’s story so I decided to give him a break.
Since we are preparing to start planting Sorghum and Soybeans again as dark clouds have appeared in the horizon after the long dry spell, I told Jacob that I will allow him to conduct an actual demonstration on the effectiveness of his formula.
When the rains fall hopefully soon, I will assign a plot of our experimental Soybeans variety from India where he could use his Foliar Fertilizer.
If his product is proven to be effective, I will ask supporters and friends to help him produce more and obtain an FPA license so he could market it.
