Tarangnan, Western Samar – Mayor Danilo Tan of this coastal town calls the emergency landing we made in his town today a blessing from heaven.
“Hulog kayo ng langit. Sa lahat ng Secretary, ikaw pa talaga ang aksidente na napunta dito,” he said.
The “visit” to Tarangnan was indeed accidental.
We were flying by helicopter from Mapanas, Northern Samar to Baybay, Southern Leyte when dark clouds enveloped the skies and rains started pouring.
Helicopter pilot Capt. Edric Domini decided to look for the nearest safe landing area and found a clearing in Tarangnan.
In spite of the slight drizzle, Mayor Tan took the opportunity to bring me to the town’s fish landing where fishermen’s catch are consolidated to be brought to Manila.
Just like the situation in many other fishing areas in the country, Tarangnan do s not have an ice plant.
In response to the Mayor’s request, I committed to send a validation team to conduct a study on the viability of an ice plant.
His requests for farm to market roads will also validated.
