Golden Fields Of Hope! Non-GMO Soybeans Harvest For Seed Production Begins

The dream to reduce the country’s 99.99% dependence on imported Soybeans is coming true.
Early today, I visited our Soybeans in the Trial Farm in New Esperanza, Mlang and saw green leaves had turned golden and the pods brown.
In another week or two, the first field will be ready for harvest.
In fact, meron mga puno na una nagmature at nalaglag na ang mga dahon.
The irregular maturity could be due to our inaccurate fertilization protocol.
The beans are also smaller which means that we failed to provide the plants with the needed nutrients for bigger beans.
All of these observations could be addressed in our next planting cycle.
What is important now is that we have established that Soybeans could be grown in Mindanao.
All that is needed to establish a viable Soybeans Industry is a linkage with institutional buyers.
That too is assured because this early, institutional buyers are already keenly following the progress of our Soybeans Project.
Within the next 2 years, we do not have to take out P6-B from our local economy to import Soybeans.
We are targeting to produce locally 25% of our total requirements yearly.
