For the first time in my life, I tasted last week the unique flavor of golden chips made out of ‘Tindok’ Banana (sn: Musa paradisiaca vr. magna).
It was my younger brother Bong who brought two large fingers of the “Tindok” to my farm after I posted photos of my own “Tindok.”
When the “Tindok” was sliced, sprinkled with a little salt and fried, it came out round golden chips which tasted a lot better than the commercial banana chips or even the imported potato chips.
“Saging Tindok” is endemic to the Philippines, where it sometimes just grows wild, and other Southeast Asian countries and South America.
This made me realize once again that we are so blessed with many resources whose commercial potentials have not been explored.
Today, with the help of Tissue Culture Expert Jay Mearns, I am starting the propagation of the “Saging Tindok” in the laboratory to produce meriplants.
My target is to produce the “Saging Tindok” in commercial quantity to start the production of the Golden Tindok Chips.
Having tasted the salted “Tindok” chips, I am sure it will give the imported Potatoe Chips a stiff competition.
