The Ilocos Garlic planted by a team of experts from Ilocos Norte on Sept. 10 is growing well in a small plot of the Demo and Trial Farm in Campo 11, Rangayen, Alamada, Cotabato.
The Red Bulb Onion seeds which were sowed in seed beds on the same date did not perform well as these were affected by the intermittent rains.
The Demo and Trial Farms were established by Vetmate Farma Corp., a company owned by my friend German Panghulan of Batangas, which is investing in Onion and Garlic Production in Mindanao.
These developments will now guide us on where to focus our Garlic and Onion farming.
Garlic will be in the highlands and midlands of Alamada and other towns of Cotabato.
Bulb Onion will be in the sunny lowlands of Mlang and other low elevation areas.
By the second week of October, a team of Garlic and Onion farmers from Ilocos Norte and technicians from the Dept of Agriculture Region 1 will come to Cotabato to conduct orientation and actual planting of Garlic and Onion.
