Growing Garlic!

Garlic could be grown in North Cotabato and perhaps in other parts of Mindanao but there are some challenges that we have to address for successful and profitable farming.
In the few plots in my farm in Kidapawan City where I planted Garlic in batches starting Jan. 12, our Garlic have developed cloves although not as ideal as those grown by experts in Ilocos.
Also, we encountered a serious problem on fungus which attacked the neck of the young Garlic resulting in rotting which eventually caused the plant to die.
Following the advice of experts, the farm boys sprayed the Garlic with fungicide but we were not successful in stopping the spread.
I suspect that the fungus may have come from the compost which I spread over the plots before planting.
Aside from this issue, however, the other plots where we applied fungicide before planting the Garlic resulted in better growth.
The good result of this experiment is that we have proven that Garlic could be grown in Kidapawan and other parts of Mindanao and if we could address the fungal attack, we could expect a profitable yield.
