From the highlands of Alamada where they helped set up a Demo Farm for Onion and Garlic, technicians and farmers from Ilocos Norte visited my birthplace Mlang, Cotabato today.
I asked them to assess an area which I would like to use as Garlic and Onion Demo Farm and Learning Center for farmers in the lowlands.
Led by DA technicians Sylvia Igarta and Alvin Galiza, Onion and Garlic farmers Joemer Salvador and Vincent Gelacio inspected the same place where I planted Soybeans recently.
The team from San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte was dispatched by DA Region 1 Director Annie Bares following the request which I made through Vetmate Farma Corp.
They were happy with the location and the type of soil.
Mlang Vice Mayor Lito Piñol, my younger brother, assured the team of his all-out support.
Vice Mayor Lito said Onion and Garlic could be a profitable Rotational Crop for the upland areas of Mlang.
Land preparation will start this week and with the expected arrival of the Garlic planting materials from Ilocos, planting will follow.
For Onion, the project will use the Red Dragon Onion Variety from Ramgo Seeds.
