In Alamada, Cotabato! Farmers’ Learning Center For Sorghum, Soya Opens

A Farmers’ Learning Center for Sorghum and Soybeans Production was officially established yesterday in Barangay Rangayen, Alamada, North Cotabato.
Set up in a 3-hectare property owned by the family of Iranun Sultan Pacasim Butig, the Farmers’ Learning Center is a joint project of the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc. led by former Senator Panfilo Lacson for Sorghum and the Braveheart Farms for Soybeans.
It will be supervised by the Dept. of Agriculture Region 12, the Bureau of Plant Industry and the Municipal Agriculture Office of Alamada.
While the Farmers’ Learning Center is purely a private sector initiative, I have asked DA, BPI and MAO-Alamada to collaborate with us to supervise and monitor the projects as we establish protocols in the production of both crops.
The National Seed Industry Council (NSIC) will also be asked to monitor the performance of both the Sorghum and Soybean seeds as a requirement for NSIC Registration.
During the launching yesterday, local farmers observed the land preparation, seeding and fertilization.
Alamada will thus become the Center of the Sorghum and Soybeans Studies and Production in Mindanao.
