Returning to Sitio Rebi, Pigcawaran, Alamada, North Cotabato for the launching of the Sorghum Farming Program yesterday, I was deeply touched by the reaction of the Iranun villagers to the project.
Entering the site of the Demonstration Farm, I was welcomed by “Bandalas,” colorful flags and banners which mark special events in the community.
I understood how much this project means to the farmers who had long suffered from losses.
They were among those who lost bigtime in Kalabasa farming.
Yesterday, they also complained that nobody is buying their corn.
The Sorghum Program of the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Inc. on the other hand, offers a buy-back agreement with a fixed price.
To them, the program assures them of a ready market and they will no longer have to fear that nobody will buy their produce.
