In Cauayan, Negros Occ. Sorghum, Rice Production Forum For Negros Occ. Farmers Today

At 9 a.m. today, farmers of the town of Cauayan, Negros Occidental and the neighboring areas will gather in the conference hall of the municipal building for the Sorghum and Rice Production Orientation Workshop, the first of its kind in the province.
For Rice Production, the country’s outstanding rice farmer, former OFW Danilo Arcales Bolos, who holds the record of the highest rice yield per hectare, will share his secrets in attaining a production of 17-metric tons and lately, an unofficial record of 19-metric tons.
Dan Bolos, who owns a farm in Barangay Tagpos, Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija, is part of the Sufficient Food For Filipinos Advocacy Team which I organized to make people realize that the Philippines could be food sufficient if we do things the right way.
For Precise Soil Fertilization, Filipino-American Farmer-Scientist Rocky French will discuss the practical and easy methods of determining soil fertility and the proper fertilization.
He will emphasize on ways through which farmers could efficiently provide for the nutrient needs of their crops at the lowest possible cost.
I will present a new crop which could be adopted by Negros farmers and landowners, especially in areas where Sugarcane is grown as a mono-crop.
The potentials of Sorghum as a cash crop for upland farmers and as an additional source of income for sugarcane farmers will also be presented.
I will also explain the growership program of the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc., a small corporation which former Sen. Panfilo Lacson and I, along with several friends formed, to promote Sorghum.
After the morning lectures, there will be a ceremonial planting in the Sorghum Demonstration and Trial Farm established by Mayor John Ray Tabujara in Cauayan town.
The workshop is open to farmers in Cauayan and other areas.
