Kidapawan City – Over 200 farmers from different areas in Central Mindanao and Davao del Sur gathered here for a two-day forum on Abaca farming.
The first day consisted of lectures on how to plant, harvest and market Abaca while the second day tomorrow will involve actual field planting and Abaca stripping.
Lectures on how to plant coffee, cacao, Black Pepper and industrial trees like Falcata and Gmelina will also be delivered today.
The Phil. Crop Insurance Corp. and the Agricultural Credit Policy Council ( ACPC) also briefed participants on crop insurance and easy access credit.
I also briefed participants on the 4Ks Progam of the Department of Agriculture.
After the meeting between President Rody Duterte and the rice traders in Malacañang last night, I flew straight to Davao arriving at about 3 am here to join the workshop.
The DA through the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority and the Office of the Undersecretary for High Value Crops are sponsoring the 2-day workshop.
