President Rody Duterte yesterday approved the proposal of the Department of Agriculture to bring in about 200 Russian investors and businessmen in February for the First Philippine-Russia Trade and Agri Forum in Davao City.
The Russian delegation is expected to include buyers of such agricultural commodities as cavendish banana, pineapple, cacao, mango and aqua-marine products like shrimps and bangus.
The Trade and Agri Forum was among the agreements reached during the Bilateral Meeting between the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines and the Russian Agriculture Ministry last week.
The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister Evgeny Gromyko while the I headed the Philipine side.
The other agreements reached were the organization of a Technical Working Group composed of representatives of the Agriculture Department’s of both countries and the sending of inspection teams to each country.
Both sides also agreed to recommend to their respective governments the opening of the air links between Russia and the Philippines to promote trade engagements and tourism.
“That’s a very good idea,” Pres. Duterte said.
He also directed me to coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Trade and Industry to ensure the success of the Agri and Trade Forum.
The same Trade and Agri Forum.is expected to be hosted by Russia in 2019.
