In fairness to the Bureau Chief of PDI Mindanao, Edra Benedicto, she immediately acted on my complaint against the erroneous reporting of reporter Orlando Dinoy.
Ms. Benedicto initially said that Dinoy’s story was based on a recording of my extemporaneous speech during the inauguration of North Cotabato Gov. Nancy Catamco.
She sent me a voice clip where I said: “Just last week, napuno na ko sa intriga NGA KUNO the President has lost trust in me and I was on my way out.”
I told her to understand the context of the statement and that the words “NGA KUNO” or loosely translated “Which Said” meant that I was referring to the rumors.
The reporter Dinoy, who I was told is the subject of many complaints for erroneous reporting, wrote a story which said that I admitted that the President has lost trust in me and that I said I was on the way out.
After I explained to her the correct context, Benedicto promised to correct the story.
Let’s see what comes out tomorrow.
But honestly, reporters like Dinoy should not be allowed to run around introducing themselves as journalists but with very little concern for the accuracy of their stories.
