Institutionalizing Malinis At Masaganang Karagatan

I am very happy that the Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan Program which I personally conceptualized and officially implemented as Secretary of Agriculture has been institutionalized.

This program selects coastal communities with:

– a declared closed fishing season;

– a protected marine sanctuary;

– clean coastal waters;

– protected mangroves area an;d

– Zero incidence of illegal fishing

Regional winners receive P5-M while the national winner receives a whooping P30-M which could be used for livelihood projects of fisherfolks and other projects to boost marine protection.

Launched in 2017 by President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang, the MMK is one of the most awaited competitions by the country’s coastal towns..

This year’s national champion isnthe coastal town of Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon.
