Introducing, Cotabato’s Grande Verde Avocado!

Early this morning, couple Michael and Jonah Mineses visited me in the farm bringing with them a large green Avocado from their farm in New Cebu, Pres. Roxas town.
Their visit was actually for another purpose but we ended up talking about the large green Avocado.
Michael said it was Jonah, a lawyer who worked with me in the Dept. of Agriculture before as consultant, who bought the first seedling which he propagated.
Today, he has about 80 mature trees which started yo bear fruit between 4 to 5 years.
The average weight of the fruit is about 500 grams each, with a few weighing almost one kilo.
Michael said the taste is excellent and he was able to store it for 8 weeks when it was Vacuum-packed.
I was very interested in propagating this variety so we came up with an agreement that my technicians in the farm will reproduce the Avocado through Inarching.
We also gave this variety a new name, Cotabato Grande Verde.
A few months from now, we will have hundreds of grafted seedlings of Cotabato Grande Verde to share.
