Oftentimes, we derisively call China-made farm tools as “Intsik-Intsik,” cheap and poor quality.
But we have to concede that many of these cheap tools are very useful and practical.
Yesterday, we had a demonstration on the use of a Fertilizer Applicator which I consider as a great innovation in farm tools.
The Fertilizer Applicator consists of a backpack where the mixed fertilizer is kept.
Attached to the backpack is a plastic tube through which the fertilizer is applied in the field.
At the tip of the plastic tube is an adjustable nozzle with a spring.
The amount of fertilizer released is determined by the nozzle which when pressed against the ground, drops the fertilizer uniformly.
Actually, nakita ko lang ito sa social media posts and at first I thought that it was just one of those scams.
Then, I found out that a vegetable farmer in Dado, Alamada, Junjun Miranda, had been using the Fertilizer Applicator which he bought on-line.
Yesterday Junjun lent me three units to be used in fertilizing our Sorghum in the Demo Farm.
When I personally witnessed how the tool worked, I was deeply impressed.
With this tool, one worker could easily cover one hectare in one day.
And the bonus is it is very affordable costing only about P1,000.
