Anybody who does not know that Malacanang had a hand in the impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona must be sent back to Grade 1 Section 6 of Philippine politics 101.
And if Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla thought that he would be able to shake down the Aquino administration and bring it to its knees with his expose on how President Benigno S. Aquino III “begged” him to support the Corona impeachment, he too should be relegated to the category of kindergarten politics.
Of course, anybody who understands the inner workings of and the wheeling and dealing in Philippine politics knows that the impeachment of CJ Corona was a Malacanang orchestrated move.
The President definitely supported it and that cannot be denied.
The apparent intention of Senator Revilla in exposing his meeting with President Aquino was obviously to bring to focus the presidential interference in the Senate’s and Congress’ impeachment process involving the Chief Justice.
Now, several critics of the administration are insinuating that Revilla’s expose’ could be grounds for another impeachment process, this time with President Aquino’s head on the chopping board.
The question, however, is: “Did President Aquino violate the Constitution, betray his country or commit treason by working behind the scene to ensure the impeachment of CJ Corona?”
I am not a lawyer or a Constitutional expert but I believe that since the impeachment of CJ Corona was a political process, politicians and political interests were involved.
The involvement of politicians like the President and Sec. Manuel A. Roxas II was therefore par for the course.
And by the way, stealing hundreds of million of public funds intended for the poor Filipinos is far worse crime for not only is the public official’s oath violated, he also betrays the very people who elected him.
