Yesterday, I and my son, Imman, went to a supermarket in Quezon City to buy food supplies.
Checking the fish section, I was shocked to see the prices.
Galunggong which is bought from fishermen in Basilan for P40 per kilo and resold by consolidators for P70 was priced P320.
While understandably prices in supermarkets are higher than the wet markets, the prices are still very high.
The prices are way beyond the reach of common Filipino families.
May dalawang bagay na puedeng gawin para masolusyunan iyo.
First, government must really focus on aquaculture, especially fish cage farming.
Pangalawa, kailangan talagang magtayo ng Fish Consolidation Centers in the country’s fishing grounds complete with post harvest facilities including reefer trucks or vessels to bring the fish to the market.
Then, in Metro Manila and other big cities, magbukas ng Farmer and Fisherman’s Outlets.
Kailangan talaga makialam ang gobyerno.
This will not come quick but it has to be done now.
