International Award winning Ram Pump champion Auke Idzenga of Bacolod City made a surprise visit in Kidapawan City today.
He was actually bound for Digos City where AIDFI, the foundation which he heads, has a ram pump project.
Auke also visited Pigcawayan town in North Cotabato where he was another project.
He and a worker drove all the way from Bacolod City to Cotabato and Davao.
I shared coffee with him at Dunkin Donuts where we were joined by another “Waterman,” Engr. Renaldo Borda.
Engr. Borda, who once worked with the Dept. of Agriculture when I was Secretary, specializes in constructing Solar-Powered Irrigation Projects.
Our conversation focused on how water when made accessible to farmers could contribute to food sufficiency.
Auke is championing Ram Pumps which do not need fuel to provide water to farms.
Engr. Borda has designed for me a Small Solar Irrigation set up which could provide water for 5 to 10 hectare farms.
