TOP NFA OFFICIALS ACCEPT
“LIFESTYLE CHECK” DARE
By Manny Piñol
Four top officials of the National Food Authority (NFA), an agency long tainted by issues of corruption, have accepted the challenge to undergo a “Lifestyle Check” by the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission.
While waiting for the Senate Plenary hearing today of the 2019 Budget of the Department of Agriculture and its line and attached agencies, I asked NFA Acting Administrator Tomas Escarez and three others if they would be willing to undergo a “Lifestyle Check” by the PACC.
Their answer was a unanimous “Yes.”
It was actually a follower of this page, Eduardo Domingo, who suggested that top NFA Officials follow the example I set when I asked PACC to subject me to a “Lifestyle Check.”
I made the move following a media demolition job which insinuated that I gained financially from the NFA Rice importation three months after it was placed back to the DA.
The move was described as historic by PACC Chairman Dante Jimenez and gained positive comments from Facebook followers.
Aside from Escarez, who rose from the ranks as a warehouseman to become Acting Administrator, those who agreed to a “Lifestyle Check” were Asst. Administrator Mercy Yacapin and two Directors.
On Monday, I will request the PACC to conduct a “Lifestyle Check” on the top officials of the NFA.
Those who will fail will have to face the Ax while those who will pass will be able to redeem their honor.
