IT’S LANZONES SEASON!

After years of abnormal climatic conditions which affected the fruit industry of North Cotabato, fruit tree growers in Kidapawan City and the nearby areas are finally having bountiful harvest.

Mangosteen, rambutan, durian, marang and the succulent Longkong Lanzones are now found in makeshift stalls which have sprouted like mushrooms along the Davao-Cotabato Highway.

Rambutan is sold for P25 per kilo, Longkong Lanzones P70, Mangosteen P70, Durian P35 and marang P15 per piece.

Today, we have started the harvest of the Longkong Lanzones growing in the two farms owned by my daughters, Dr. Maria Krista, and Josa Bernadette.

I started planting these Longkong Lanzones trees shortly after I acquired the property in Barangay Paco, Kidapawan City in 1993.

Years of abnormal climate, however, affected the fruit bearing of the lanzones.

This year though, we have a surprising bonus.

As we are harvesting the fruits this season, I noticed that the trees are starting to flower again.

The flowering is so profuse that my farm hands are expecting that the unusual harvest this coming December will be even bigger than the harvest this season.

Well, as I have always said in the past, God has a way of showering his people blessings.

After years of failure which brought hardships to fruit tree growers, God is giving us a bonus – two fruitings in one year.
