Kidapawan City – Straight from an overnight boat trip from Leyte to Cebu, a plane ride from Cebu to Davao and a 2-hour land trip to my farm, I joined a group of farmers who watched the actual field demonstration on how to prepare Jackfruit scions for grafting.
The lecture and demonstration were conducted by Alice Bulawan, the Jackfruit expert from the Eastern Visayas Agricultural Research Center in Abuyog, Leyte.
It was in EVIARC and Visayas State University where the Abuyog Sweet, a variety of jackfruit with a Brix of 25.4 was developed by Filipino plant breeders.
Three years ago, I bought a hundred grafted seedlings of Abuyog Sweet which are starting to bear fruits now.
To share the knowledge on Jackfruit propagation, I invited Alice Bulawan to conduct a 2-day lecture in my farm for farmers who came from as far as Zamboanga, Davao and South Cotabato.
I also shared scions to the other farmers who attended the lectures.
