Even with a war raging in Marawi City, the Biyaheng Bukid team of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries sails from Mindanao to the tiny island province of Siquijor today.
The 5-hour sea travel from Cagayan de Oro on board the MCS 3004 of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will allow me and top officials of the DAF to take a look at the farming and fisheries situation in the island which is ranked No. 9 among the poorest areas of the country with a Poverty Incidence of 55%.
This will be my first visit to the island which is known as the home of arbularyos who could prepare magic potions either to bring illness or good health to those who believe.
I hope I will be able to ask them if there is a magic potion to end poverty and hunger in this world.
