Two months ago, my older brother Pat, sent me four five heads of the rare chicken breed Ameraucana which is known as the Blue Egg Layers or the Easter Egg Layers.
This breed was reportedly developed by American breeders out of a Chilean breed called Araucana which is tail-less and produces eggs of all sorts of colours.
The Ameraucana chicken came from American poultry breeder April Harrington of Texas which she gave to Pat who in turn shared with me five heads.
It was shipped to Col. Pat by Dommie Corpuz and Jeff de Guzman.
After keeping them for over two months in a quarantine area, I brought the Ameraucanas out in the yard for them to have a taste of the green grass.
Since they are still very young, I don’t expect them to produce eggs until after about two more months.
Those who are interested in acquiring breeding materials of this rare breed will have to wait for about six more months.
It will be worth the wait though.
Can you imagine eating a blue egg?
