President Rody Duterte today pledged a P1-billion fund for the Department of Agriculture’s Survival and Recovery Loan Program for farmers and fisherfolks affected by natural calamities.
The President made the surprise announcement during the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) en banc meeting in Malacañang today.
The NAPC en banc meeting, the first to be held in 10 years, was convened to discuss programs to address poverty.
During the discussions, Pres. Duterte asked me to make an update on the DA’s anti-poverty program along with food production projects.
Towards the end of my report, I mentioned the SURE Loan Program which I asked the Agriculture Credit Policy Council (ACPC) to design following a visit I made to the flood stricken provinces in Mindanao.
The SURE Loan Program provides two packages – the Survival Package of P15,000 for food and subsistence and the Recovery Package of P20,000 for the farmer and fisherman to use to buy fertilizers and farm inputs to be able to recover.
The loan is interest and collateral free and payable in three years.
Tomorrow, the ACPC board will meet to discuss among others the SURE Loan Program.
