Legacy! Farmer-Fathers Plant For Their Children & Future

There once was an old man in Makilala, North Cotabato who kept on planting fruit trees even when he was over 90.
“I’m planting these for my grandchildren,” Honesto Cabacungan, Sr. said when asked why he kept on planting even when he would no longer be around when the trees bore fruits.
He could just had bought imported apples and grapes for his grandchildren to feast on.
Instead, he planted fruit trees which today his gramdchildren would climb on to harvest the fruits.
I am sure the Cabacungan generation today remembers their Lolo Honesto, the Tree Farmer.
Honesto Sr. is long gone but he is rembered as the epitome of a real farmer.
Farmers plant for the future which makes farming the only profession which is inter-generational.
There are no quick rewards or instant harvests.
Sadly, many of our economic planners and policy makers do not understand this.
They plan for today and tomorrow, not the future.
So, they opt for importation rather than support farmers in ensuring that there is food for the next generation.
