Lesson #12! Breeding & Raising Free-Range Chicken

Ano ang gagawin kung hindi natunawan ang maniok?
A question was raised by followers of this series on the Breeding and Raising of Free-Range Chicken on what measures to undertake when chicken suffers from “compacted crop.”
“Compacted Crop” simply means the chicken was not able to digest its food from the previous feed or hindi natunawan ang manok.
Unless addressed, this could lead to the death of the chicken.
Here are simple ways to address this problem:
1. Monitor chicken which suffer from indigestion by observing their reaction to the feeding in the morning. If it is not aggressive towards the feeds, something is wrong;
2. Catch the chicken and feel the crop. If it still has feeds inside, that means it failed to digest the food and this is dangerous;
3. First step is to use a syringe to pump water into the crop of the chicken through its throat but do it slowly, or else it will drown;
4. Once the crop is filled with water, you have to check whether the undigested feeds are already soft or if there is something hard inside. In farms where chicken are set loose near rubber trees, it is possible that it ingested rubber latex which would coagulate inside the crop, in which case, you have to pump out the contents of the crop by pressing it while the chicken is held feet up;
5. Another method of enhancing digestion is to feed the chicken orally with ripe tomatoes;
6. In worse case scenario, there are medications which could address Compacted Crop, one of which carries the brand name NF-One which you could buy from veterinary stores.
I hope these tips could help.
