Manok Pinoy, the new backyard chicken strain which I developed 12 years ago, is a dual purpose breed aimed at giving the farm outstanding quality meat and brown eggs.
To ensure that I achieve this goal, I use an Oriental line of muscled chicken locally called Jolo or Parawakan.
While the Parawakans are fast-growers, the hens are stingy egg layers.
To compensate for this weakness, I breed the Parawakans with good brown egg layers and I have a lot to choose from.
So, the Manok Pinoy has outstanding meat quality and the hens are fairly good producers of brown eggs.
