Let’s Make Banana Flour!

Earlier today, I directed Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) officers to explore partnerships with other government agencies for the establishment of a pilot Banana Flour Processing Facility in Mindanao.

I also forwarded to Usec. Janet Lopoz a link to a company which produces equipment used in Banana Flour Processing so the costing could be determined.

MinDA aims to tap woman groups in banana production areas to manage and operate the facilities.

As I have reported yesterday, an estimated 1-million tons of blemished, oversized and small bananas are just thrown away every year.

This is a big waste of a product which if processed into banana flour could address malnutrition and also provide income opportunities for poor families in Mindanao.
