A few months ago, my brother and fellow farmer Pat, sent me a cockerel and four pullets of the exotic poultry breed Ameraucana which produces blue eggs.
The birds came from American poultry breeder April Howington of Texas who sent these through Domie Corpus and Jeff de Guzman.
The Ameraucana is a breed developed by American breeders using a tail-less chicken from Chile, Araucana, which produced colored eggs.
I have always been fascinated by rare and exotic poultry breeds.
The first Ameraucana that I acquired were old hens that I and my American friend Jim Clem bought from a backyard poultry raiser in Oregon.
There was no Ameraucana rooster though so I bred the hens to an Asil cock.
The pullets bred out of this breeding still.gave blue eggs but they were pale compared to the eggs of pure Ameraucana hens.
Yesterday, my cousin Marvin Magbanua who breeds my chicken showed me the first six blue eggs of the Ameraucana pullets.
