Lupain Sinasayang!

Why rely on importation when we have vast areas for Food Production which are just idle?
On our way to North Upi, Maguindanao today to launch our Sorghum and Soybeans Program, I saw wide farmlands which were not planted with any crop, just grass.
I felt sad because I know why these farms are not tilled.
1. Lack of funds to buy seeds and farm inputs;
2. Lack of proper guidance on what to plant based on market demands;
3. Lack of market access and unstable buying prices.
These are very minor issues which government could actually address to improve productivity and reduce poverty in the countryside.
Our greatest problem is that our planners believe it is more convenient and easier to just import.
This is our greatest tragedy as an agricultural country.
