Poor families, even outside of the political boundaries of North Cotabato, who have children with harelip or cleft palate and suffering from meningocele, could avail of free surgery offered by the Maharlika Charity Foundation based in Davao City.
The operation for harelip or cleft palate and meningocele usually costs between P70,000 to P80,000 and is definitely beyond the reach of the poor families of Mindanao.
Dr. Benedict Valdez, head of mission of the Maharlika Charity Foundation led by my relative, Dr. Rizal Aportadera, said they could accommodate children with harelip and meningocele from all over Mindanao.
The mission which is done in the Province of North Cotabato under the Misyon Pagmamahal ni Manny Pinol has already served over 100 patients with harelip and meningocele in North Cotabato and hundreds suffering from cysts of varying sizes.
Medicines, provided by the Office of Senator Chiz Escudero, are free but the patients’ family members are asked to provide themselves with transportation and food money.
Those who would like to avail of this humanitarian program could get in touch with my secretary, Joyce Tupas 09204044171 or Shiela at the Maharlika Chafity Foundation on Cabaguio Street, Davao City through 09062611544.
Last Saturday and Sunday, March 2 and 3, a total of 74 patients suffering from cysts were operated on in Takepan, Pikit.
(Patients wait for their turn to undergo surgery beside the fully-airconditioned mobile surgical clinic of the Maharlika Charity Foundation parked near the Takepan Barangay Hall in Pikit last Saturday and Sunday.)
