MEET THE GODFATHERS (AND GODMOTHERS, TOO)

A wedding will not be complete without the Ninongs and Ninangs (Godfathers and Godmothers).

The Ninongs and Ninangs usually are close family friends who theoritically are expected to be the second parents of the newly-wed.

Among politicians, a daughter or a son’s wedding is an opportunity to widen the political base by inviting heads of big political families to stand as sponsors thus cementing a bond that is expected to translate to political support.

I left the task of choosing the Ninongs and Ninangs to Dr. Maria Krista and Chito.

So except for Davao City former Mayor and now Mayor Rody Duterte, all the rest are non-politicians.

Rody, a dear friend who is also the baptismal Ninong of my youngest child, Imman, was joined by other friends including Ma. Krista’s baptismal and confirmation Ninongs – Recah Trinidad of the Phil. Daily Inquirer, Ding Marcelo of the Manila Bulletin, Atty. Jigs Cachuela and Dodong Arizola.

I am posting here the people who will touch Ma. Krista’s and Chito’s lives.
