Modern Farming! Drones Game Changers In Philippine Agriculture

Seven days after the DJI Agricultural Drone sowed Sorghum seeds in a demonstration farm in San Vicente, Makilala, Cotabato, we will once again use this aerial equipment today to spray herbicide and broadcast fertilizer over an area of about 2,300 square meters.
The whole process will take less than 10 minutes, tasks which would have taken so many hours and manpower should these be done through the conventional method of manual spraying and fertilizer broadcast.
These Agricultural Drones were first introduced by the Dept. of Agriculture to Benguet vegetable farmers but there was not much interest in using it.
Lately, however, with farm workers getting sparse and the cost of fuel shooting to unprecedented levels, everybody is now looking at ways of reducing the cost of production.
To plant the seeds of Sorghum manually, I would need a small tractor for furrowing which would cost at least P2,000 and 10 workers 10 workers who would get P400 each or a total of P4,000.
Using an Agri-Drone to broadcast would only cost P2,000 per hectare and the whole task would be over in less than 10-minutes.
The Agri-Drones could dramatically revolutionize Rice, Corn and Sorghum farming in the Philippines by lowering cost of production thus making our farmers more competitive.
