Today is the day when my eldest daughter, Dr. Maria Krista, will start a family of her own.
She will marry her childhood sweetheart Chito Solis, her high school sweetheart who now works as a firefighter at the Davao International Airport in Davao City.
Last night, my daughter sat beside me while I was watching TV and asked: “Are you ready for tomorrow? Will you cry on my wedding day?”
I hugged her and asked: “Why should I cry?”
Earlier today, she and her mother repeated the same question: “Will you cry today?”
Again my answer was: “Why should I? Your wedding is a happy day for me. I will not be losing a daughter but I will be gaining a son.”
But suddenly, I felt a lump in my throat.
This was the little girl whom I carried on my shoulder every time I cooked food for my family.
This was the little girl who served as the adhesive that kept the family together during the rough and rainy years.
Will I cry on my daughter’s wedding today?

That remains to be seen.
