Last week, a group of vegetable farmers from my home village, Nueva Vida, M’lang, Cotabato, posted on Facebook a photo of their Kalabasa produce asking me to help them find a buyer.
Since wala naman akong nakitang buyer, I offered to buy their Kalabasa at the price they asked: P8 per kilo, which is not much I think for their labor.
Led by Barangay Kagawad Renato Alojipan, farmer Eddie Baluma and his group delivered 830 kilos of good looking Squash to my farm last Sunday and I paid them P6,700.
I also gave them 100 seedlings of the Abuyog Sweet Langka and 1,000 Giant Bamboo planting materials to be planted in the periphery of their vegetable farms.
Happy sila at ako naman, kukumbinsihin ko ang mga manok ko sa farm na kumain ng kalabasa at sabihin ko na pampalinaw ng mata para malayo pa, kita na nila ang uwak at lawin. Ha ha ha!
But I really would like to explore the possiblity of using squash as additional raw materials for poultry, hogs and aqua feeds.
