New Discovery! Have You Ever Heard Of ‘Saba Malagkit’ Variety?

As I was coming home to Kidapawan City from a trip to South Cotabato yesterday, I passed through the back roads to avoid traffic and accidentally made a pleasant discovery.
I noticed a small Sari-Sari Store by the roadside in Barangay Balindog which sold Saba bananas or the cooking variety of banana.
When I got off from my vehicle, I noticed an unusual looking “Saba” which was smaller in size and brownish in color.
The farmer who owned the store, Tido Disio, said the small “Saba” was actually a “Malagkit” or sticky variety which is very rare.
I bought two hands and had these cooked right away and it was then when I discovered that what Tido Disio told me was right.
It was indeed “Malagkit” even if it was not fully ripe yet.
Since I got Tido’s number, I asked him right away to share with me 20 suckers of the “Sabang Malagkit” which will be propagated through Tissue Culture.
The 20 suckers could produce as much as 10,000 meriplants which I could share with other farmers 10 months from now.
