Sorghum, the world’s 5th most important grains which could withstand drought, and Soybeans which is a vital protein-source for livestock and poultry feeds and food as well, offer new hope for farmers in Alamada, North Cotabato.
Alamada Mayor Jesus N. Sacdalan on Wednesday joined the formal launching of the Sorghum and Soybeans program in his town saying that the two crops could help farmers recover from their losses in Kalabasa farming and protect them from the erratic pricing for other products like Corn and Lacatan Bananas.
Also present during the formal launching of the program in Campo 10 and Campo 11 Rangayen, Alamada were visitors from Luzon led by former Congressman Eric Acuña and Vic Calderon whose company, JJEA Agriculture, produces the popular AMO Foliar Fertilizer used extensively in growing Sorghum and Soybeans.
Members of the media from Davao City and Cotabato City also documented the launching which was joined by local leaders and farmers.
A demonstration on Agricultural Drone Spraying of AMO Foliar Fertilizer was also conducted even in foggy weather at about 1,000 meter-above-sea-level elevation.
About 1,000 hectares will be planted to Sorghum over the next four months while Soybeans will be able to cover about 2,000 hectares before the end of the year.
What makes the program acceptable to the farmers is the Buy-Back Agreement which the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Inc. offers to Sorghum farmers.
The same agreement also covers the Soybeans Project which is undertaken by Braveheart Farms and Nursery which I own.
Seeds, tractor services, fertilizer and farm inputs are offered on a deferred payment scheme while technicians assist farmers and workers address problems in the field.
Mayor Sacdalan said Alamada with a land area of 78,000 hectares could serve as the center of Sorghum and Soybeans Production in North Cotabato because of its fertile soil nd ideal climate.
