Next target: Rice BOHOL FISH NOW SOLD AT HALF OF OLD PRICES

By Manny Piñol
Tagbilaran City, Bohol – Prices of fish in several Bohol fish markets have dropped to almost of the old prices because fishermen now directly sell their produce to consumers.
The fishermen, who in the past sold their catch to middlemen from whom they borrowed for their fishing expeditions, received financing from the Department of Agriculture through the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC).
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has also provided some of the fishermen with Fiberglass Fishing Boats.
Prior to the start of the loaning program, Galunggong was sold for as high as P200 per kilo.
Today, in the relaunching of the Bohol Fish Market, Galunggong was sold between P90 to P120.
The DA and BFAR have committed to expand the Bohol Fish Market to Ubay, Bohol soon while BFAR Undersecretary Eduardo Gongona pledged to provide with reefer vans so the fishermen could keep their excess catch.
