At the height of the Bird Flu Outbreak in Central Luzon in 2017, I convinced a young Manila businessman to establish a Chicken Dung processing plant to ensure that the fresh manure used by vegetable farmers in the Cordilleras would not spread the disease.
Engaging German scientists, businessman Jomerito Soliman bought a piece of land in Anao, Tarlac where the proposed processing plant would be established.
The project, however, was torpedoed by the local officials who opposed the project on health and environmental grounds.
Of course, their opposition was based on the lack of knowledge and information on the then emerging technology of turning animal wastes, especially Chicken Dung, into Organic Fertilizer.
Today, in advanced agricultural countries, a modern system of processing animal wastes to organic fertilizer has aided farmers in increasing their production and lowering dependence on expensive Inorganic or Chemical Fertilizer.
The use of a mix of Chicken Manure Slurry and Inorganic Fertilizer has been proven to be effective in our Sorghum and Soybeans farms in Central Mindanao.
It would boost agriculture productivity if the Department of Agriculture (DA) shifts its organic fertilizer production program from simply composting to the establishment of facilities to process animal wastes.
This new technology would save the farmers a lot of money in fertilization.
Besides, this would eradicate corruption in the distribution of Inorganic fertilizer because unless you are a true farmer, you would not touch this fermented animal waste due to the strong smell.😀
