One of the most important and expensive lessons I learned in planting Sorghum and Soybeans is that there is no shortcut in farming.
Just as my forebears did it before me, successful farming starts with thorough land preparation to make sure that the weeds would not be able to compete with the growing crops.
I committed the mistake of rushing things in the early stages of our Sorghum program and paid dearly for my impatience with very low yields.
Now, I make sure that every field to be planted goes through deep plowing, two disc harrowing and then pulverizing before furrowing and planting.
The good results of this thorough practice are indisputable as shown by these two photos of our Sorghum and Soybean fields in Rangayen, Alamada which I took yesterday.
Twenty-one days after the fields were seeded, weeds have not threatened the crops yet.
In fact, the rows in between the growing crops were very clean.
This week, with the arrival of two units of WR 801 cultivators, the rows will be tilled and pulverized to prevent weeds from growing.
Indeed, successful farming is a result of patience and perseverance.
