Now under DA! NEW FOOD TERMINAL INC. REOPENS IN TAGUIG 2019

By Manny Piñol
The Marcos-era program of a food supplies consolidation center will be revived this year with the reopening of the Food Terminal, Inc. in Taguig, Metro Manila.
The FTI, which is now under the Department of Agriculture (DA), still has a 25-hectares area in Taguig to be used as the site of the new Food Terminal and another 11 hectares occupied by informal settlers.
The FTI used to have a huge property in Taguig but a big portion was sold by the Aquino Administration to the private sector.
FTI Chairman of the Board Gen. Raymundo Ferrer said the construction of the new Food Terminal facilities will be completed this year.
Ferrer and two others yesterday called on the DA Secretary to present the FTI plan and programs.
When completed, the new FTI will have receiving and processing facilities for the produce of farmers and fishermen which will them be sold directly to consumers or metro vendors’ associations.
Using modern communication technology, the new FTI will give out daily advisory on the buying prices of such products as chicken and hogs.
It will be equipped with processing and cold storage facilities.
Gen. Ferrer said a total of six Food Terminals will be constructed all over the country during the term of President Rody Duterte.
These Food Terminals will serve as the consolidation areas for agricultural and fisheries products.
Logistical facilities will also be acquired by the FTI to move the products from the Regional Food Terminals to the market.
